We do not allow access to Zookeeper itself in Aiven for Kafka managed services so it is not possible for customers to connect to it directly. Zookeeper is used both by Kafka and by Aiven management software to coordinate work within the cluster and so access must be restricted so we can provide our stability guarantees.

Many configuration settings that are stored in Zookeeper can be set instead in the Advanced Configuration section of the Service Overview page.

In upcoming releases, the Apache Kafka project is in fact working towards replacing Zookeeper so Kafka will be able to run without it, so we do not have plans to allow access to Zookeeper in the future either.
